Captain Harry Kane is among those included despite doubts over whether the Tottenham striker will be fit enough to feature.Kane’s Tottenham teammate Harry Winks is also selected as he nears a return to fitness after groin surgery, while Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek misses out having suffered a serious-looking ankle injuryduring a friendly in America on Wednesday night.Southgate explained his reasons for including Kane and Winks despite their injury problems.He said: “For the likes of Harry Winks, he deserves to named in the initial squad. It is a case that he hasn’t played for a couple of months so we will have to see. “That’s (Kane’s fitness) one of the unknowns. He’s working to be fit for the (Champions League) final. We are keeping that door open. We are going to look post-Champions League final. There is the physical aspect and emotional aspect of that final that we have to look at.“I don’t think we have had a time where we haven’t had a lot of pull outs but we have a really strong squad. Saints teammate James Ward-Prowse is included, as is West Ham midfielder Declan Rice.Jesse Lingard and Joe Gomez return to the squad but there is no place for Manchester United’s Player of the Year Luke Shaw.England play Netherlands in the semi-finals on June 6 and will then face Portugal or Switzerland in either the final or third-place game three days later.As many as 11 of the squad will report for duty just three days before the opening game, due to their involvement in the Champions League and Europa League finals.

Both finals are all-English affairs, with Arsenal and Chelsea clashing in Baku on May 29 in the Europa League showpiece and Liverpool and Tottenham meeting in the Champions League final in Madrid on June 1.Southgate must name his final squad of 23 by May 27. In the event of injury, changes can be made until 24 hours before the first game.Southgate believes the Premier League’s dominance on the European stage can only be a good thing for him and his team.“In the long-term for England,” he continued, “it’s brilliant.
