Ashley put the club on the market a year ago, but the business tycoon is no closer to relinquishing control with no interested party willing to meet his asking price.Newcastle supporters are now putting pressure on him to do a deal, with a number of them protesting outside Sports Direct in Oxford Street, the flagship store of Ashley’s company.The peaceful protest action was organised by the London Magpie Group and took place at midday on Saturday.Those in attendance held up banners reading sportsredirect.com,a website createdin an attempt to sabotage their owner’s billion-pound retail business.‘United Against Ashley’ banners were also placed across several locations in the North East on Saturday.There was due to be a protest at theSports Direct HQ in Shirebrook too, but that was scrapped after reports of increased security around the business’ base, according to The Shields Gazette.Newcastle supporters yearn to compete for silverware again and, with Champions League winner Rafael Benitez in charge, many supporters believe they have the perfect coach to do just that.And yet the manager has been faced with frustration after frustration since his appointment in 2016, as he finds himselfrestricted by the lack of fundsbeing made available to him.
